Who is in charge here? Well it’s me, Faye Botelho, of course.
Oh, you still have questions? Well then, let me tell you just who is this “Faye Botelho”.
I am a Medical Biology major in my first year at the University of New England. I chose this major because I’ve always had an interest in the medical field since I was young, and “Medical Biology” is essentially just “miscellaneous doctor business”.
In my professional and academic future, I’d be happy to leave college with at least a bachelor’s and not too much debt. I’m still figuring out exactly what I want to be, so I can’t give you a 10-Year-Plan or anything like that. Besides, who wants to live following a line that you’ve drawn in the sand?
So, while I’m trying to figure things out, let me give you some of my interests – give you an idea of the struggle I’m in with my major (and thus my future).
- The idea that people have such an intense and incredible connection with their nerves
- A tangled up ball of nerves with these branches coming out of it not only is in control of every movement, reaction, and process in your entire body simultaneously, but it also is capable of storing memories, complex thought, and more! That’s crazy!
- How air moves and affects stuff
- Wait, hear me out. Think of a campfire for me – what’s the most interesting part? Yeah okay, flames are cool. HOWEVER, the smoke is so cool! Just seeing smoke and watching how it moves it so interesting to me. But air movement also includes things like when fall leaves scuttle about on the ground and the weather.
- Eyes and vision
- Our eyes do so much cool stuff. Random beams of light hit your eye and then it comes out of your brain as an image! An incredibly highly detailed image at that.
The list could go on and on, but I don’t want to waste any more of your time. But you can see what I’m dealing with over here, right?
How do I choose just one thing and follow it for the rest of my life? Why is it that after a whole childhood of people spouting about “being whatever you want to be” and “unlimited possibility” that right when you get to the good part, the part where you finally get to choose, you are instantly limited by college acceptances and workplace demand and fields of study?
…Ah, I’m rambling. My bad.
Well, I hope this gave you a better idea of who is running the site. Oh, and if you have any ideas or wanted to reach out to me, you can contact me at: fbotelho@une.edu
