Project 2 requires an interview segment about “your key terms and what it means for barriers to understanding/including others and to being our authentic selves.” For reference, I’m planning on doing Paper 2 about authenticity and society’s complex relationship with it. Basically, how people crave vulnerability but reject it at the same time.
For the interview, I have various ideas of how I’m going to conduct it to try and make it as great as it can be.
For example, I’ll be sure to take on board the advice from Celeste Headlee that people don’t really listen – they get to a certain point in the story, come up with a really cool comment or question, and then wait until they have a turn to say it while tuning out the rest of what that person was saying. In this sense, I’ll be sure to try and just break into the conversation and state it, or at least be conscious enough to continue absorbing information and just wait.
I’ll also be careful to ask as many open-ended questions as I can and let the person I’m interviewing fill in the blanks themselves without any preconceived notions from me.
